Fed: No budget speculation from Wong on water

ADELAIDE, April 23 AAP - The federal government will stand by its funding commitments
in regard to the River Murray and securing Australia's water supplies, Federal Water Minister
Penny Wong says.

But the minister has declined to comment on whether or not the upcoming federal budget
would include a boost to spending on water infrastructure.

Senator Wong said the government had pledged to provide $12.9 billion for water buy-back
schemes and other measures and remained committed to providing those funds.

"That commitment has been very clear from the election," she told reporters in Adelaide
on Wednesday.

"In relation broadly to budget matters, I don't intend to engage in any speculation."
