AMSTERDAM MAN, WIFE INDICTED IN HORSE SCAM.(Local)

An Amsterdam husband and wife pleaded not guilty Wednesday in federal court to a six-count indictment charging that they attempted to sell the breeding rights of an Arabian stud horse and sell a second horse they did not own.

U.S. Magistrate Ralph W. Smith Jr. released James and Martha Gardner of Route 30 on their own recognizance to await trial. They face six counts of mail fraud in the alleged scheme that would have netted them more than $5,000.
