Dani Pedrosa took pole position for the Malaysian MotoGP in one of the best qualifying sessions of the season Saturday, taking the front spot for Honda from world champion Valentino Rossi with in the last seconds.
The Spanish rider was racing against time to get out for a final attempt, then produced the quickest time in 2 minutes, 1.548 seconds.
Rossi had the leading time of 2:01.957 on his Yamaha and was in pole position until Pedrosa's late run on a track that was not completely dry after earlier heavy rain that was followed by high humidity.
Jorge Lorenzo was third fastest in qualifying, with Americans Nicky Hayden and Colin Edwards in fourth …
