WASHINGTON - The smell from the visitors' dugout at RFK Stadium before Monday night's game was more than a little ripe. With this old building down to its final week of baseball, it could have been anything, from leaky sewage pipes to a rodent infestation.

Or, in the New York Mets' case, a team's playoff hopes rotting from the inside. "It smells pretty funky," manager Willie Randolph said.
